Official and university-specific master's degrees
Spanish universities offer two kinds of master's degree. The official master's (máster universitario) is recognised by the state throughout Spain and gives access to doctoral studies. The university's own master's (título propio) is designed by each university, often with a practical or professional focus, but it does not have the same official status. The difference matters if you plan to do a PhD or to work in a regulated profession.

A master's is for graduates who want to specialise, change field or strengthen their professional profile. Programmes are offered by public and private universities and by business schools, in Spanish and increasingly in English.
What usually matters
Admission usually requires a university degree. For an official master's, a foreign degree does not always need to be homologated, since the university can check that it gives access to postgraduate studies in the country that issued it. Universities also look at your academic record and CV, and sometimes a motivation letter or language certificate. Places on popular programmes are limited.
