What the entrance exams are
The university entrance exam, still widely known as Selectividad, is taken by students who finish the Spanish Bachillerato. Its name varies from one region to another, with EVAU, EBAU and PAU among the most common. The final admission grade combines the Bachillerato average with the exam results and is used to rank applicants for each degree.
Students from foreign education systems
If you studied outside Spain, your route depends on your qualification. Holders of certain school-leaving certificates, such as those from European Union education systems or the International Baccalaureate, apply to UNEDasiss, the UNED service that issues the university access accreditation. Other students usually need to have their secondary school certificate homologated to the Spanish Bachillerato first. In both cases, the specific competence tests (PCE), also run by UNEDasiss, can be taken to raise the admission grade for degrees in high demand.
What usually matters
Choosing the right PCE subjects matters, because each degree gives more weight to certain subjects. It is also important to have your documents translated and legalized correctly, and to apply within the periods each university sets.
